Hayashi of Free The Tone created a custom ring modulator for SUGIZO back in 1998, and after 20 years of work, the SUGIZO Signature Model RING MODULATOR/RM-1S was completed and released in 2018, but due to the availability of parts, it was a limited production However, due to the availability of parts, it was produced in limited quantities and did not reach all those who wished to purchase it, leading to many requests for its reproduction.

Meanwhile, SUGIZO made a new request to Hayashi. He asked, "Is it possible to control the SHIFT of the RING MODULATOR in real time using a foot controller?" And, "Is it possible to further increase the overall volume when using the RING MODULATOR?"

In the process of making improvements based on the RM-1S, in 2020, we miraculously succeeded in obtaining electronic parts that could be considered the key component of the RING MODULATOR. If we had not been able to find them, it would have been difficult to realize the commercialization of the product. Using the obtained NOS parts, we added two new functions requested by Mr. SUGIZO, "expression control of SHIFT" and "function to increase output level," and finally completed the product as RING MODULATOR II.
